Tonight I am enjoying the company of my sister-in-law who is Muslim. She and her whole family are physicians who all have more education in their little fingers than you will ever have sitting in your shit-hole trailer hating brown people. None of them are extremists. None of them are violent. None of them belong to the NRA. And all of them, every last one, are able to use punctuation, capitalization, spell words like religion correctly. Sadly, you cannot.

So I just wanted to take a few minutes to tell you how stupid and ignorant you are. The only thing I have complete intolerance for is intolerance. So please fuck off for the rest of your life.

I don't see any simple answer to this. This religion bypasses rationality. They look at any case that supports their opinion, yet ignore any contradictions. Face it, we are a superstitious bunch. That’s the kind of thing that I used to say. (See reason #138 why people in Kentucky do not get along with me.) Well, I'm not going to criticize Texas, but I am just guessing that you had a reason or two why people in Texas do not get along with you. As a much more migratory meddler, I have offended the offensive in plenty of places, including New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. It isn't the location that is the problem. As long as we view any other group of people as other, we allow ourselves to see them as less than what we are. If they are seen as sub-human, then it isn't seen as bad to treat them as dogs, or much worse. It is just another way of separating ourselves from reality. We already do that enough.

A high ranking officer in my fire department is an extreme bigot. Complaints have been ‘filed” verbally to my superior but no action is ever taken. I have found that in my state particularly there is a lot of this two faced ignorance. I have a low tolerance for these people and I have to avoid them at work. Why is there such hatred int he world still? Can’t we all grow the fuck up?

Thanks man. It’s easy to just ignore comments like these, but people should know when their slurs are unacceptable. A lot of bigots believe everyone agrees with them simply because no one will stand up to their angry and ignorant ranting. I commend anyone who takes the courageous position of getting in peoples face when they are out of line.

Thank you for writing all of that. I am horribly disturbed by the amount of hatred in our profession. So far I haven’t seen it affect anyone’s care, but I am terrified by the potential.

I simply do not understand. And I haven’t yet learned to keep my mouth shut. Of course, now my coworkers make great sport of me by pushing my buttons and watching me fly off the handle, but that’s another story…
